CARLOS GUIMARÃES

Professor of Architecture at the Porto School of Architecture since 1982, teaching Project modules since that time.

 

PhD in 1999, with the thesis "Architecture and Museums in Portugal - Between Reinterpretation and New Work."

 

Supervisor of PhD Theses and, until 2010, of the PhD Thesis Project module of the PhD programme at the Faculty of Architecture.

 

Director of FAUP since 2010, and a member of its Scientific Board and the Senate of the University of Porto.

 

As an architect, he founded the firm of CG+LSC Architects (www.cglsc.com) in the late 1980s, in partnership with Luís Soares Carneiro, and enjoyed a professional career that ranged from building design to urban planning, implementing works of architecture and making urban design proposals, with particular focus on public amenities.

He has designed projects for Maputo, in Mozambique, where buildings and housing projects under tertiary programmes are under construction.

 

He was President of the Association of Architects (Northern Regional Section) from 1999 to 2004, President of the General Assembly from 2005 to 2007 and President of the Portuguese Architects National Congress in 2003.

 

 

He was Director of the Iberian DO.CO.MO.MO. Foundation between 2003 and 2007.

He maintains a regular collaboration with academic and professional institutions.
