MANUEL GRAÇA DIAS
Architect (ESBAL,1977), Professor at University of Porto School of Architecture (FAUP), where he concluded his PhD in 2009, and Invited Professor at the Architectural Department of Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa.
MGD lives and works in Lisbon, where he co-founded, with Egas José Vieira, the CONTEMPORÂNEA architectural firm in 1990. In 1999, MGD and EJV were awarded the AICA / Portuguese Ministry of Culture Prize (Architecture) for their body of work. MGD was Editor-in-chief of Jornal Arquitectos (2000-04 and 2009-12) and President of the Portuguese Section of AICA / Association International des Critiques d’Art (2008-12). He has published many articles and several books on architectural themes.
He was the author of a bi weekly program (Ver Artes/Arquitectura), in TV2 (Portuguese Television), between 1992 and 1996, in that capacity having signed (with José Edgar Feldman), 50 documentaries on Portuguese architecture.
Researcher of the Project Ruptura silenciosa: Intersecções entre a arquitectura e o cinema, Portugal 1960-1974 (2010-2013), MGD directed, in this context, two short films on architecture: A encomenda e A limpeza (2013).
