ALEXANDRE ALVES COSTA
Born, 2nd February 1939, in Porto.
Work experience with Nuno Portas at the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering.
Graduated in Architecture from the Porto School of Fine Arts in 1966.
Professor Emeritus, Faculty of Architecture, University of Porto.
He taught the Project II and History of Portuguese Architecture disciplines at FAUP and the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra.
He has been Director of the PhD Program in Architecture at FAUP.
He has participated in courses, seminars, round tables and conferences on issues related to education or criticism and the history of architecture, in Portugal and abroad, notably in Spain, Italy, France, The Netherlands, Morocco, Canada, Angola, Brazil (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Maceio, Fortaleza, Natal, Belém), Macau, Panama and Peru.
Leads workshops in the field of architectural and urban design, at the University of Coimbra, the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, Universidade de São Paulo, the College of Architects of Málaga and the Ordem dos Arquitectos (the professional body for Portuguese architects).
His published works include articles in Portuguese and foreign specialist magazines, partially collected in three volumes:

Member of the Editorial Board of the "Boletim" of the University of Porto, the Magazine "Monumentos" started by the Directorate General for National Buildings and Monuments, now IRUH, and "Jornal dos Arquitectos" (nos. 195-217 and nos. 233-245 ) for the Ordem dos Arquitectos.
He is a practising architect, co-designing with Sérgio Fernandez since 1970, with built work almost entirely published.
